Food and Drink Policy

Policy Audience

The Otsego County Library strives to create a welcoming, clean and comfortable environment for the public. At the same time, the Library has a responsibility to protect the resources of the building including, but not limited to, the furniture, library materials, flooring, and computers. Consistent with both these goals, the Library has adopted the following guidelines for the consumption of food and beverages in the public area.

No food is allowed in the Library.

Drinks

Only drinks in safely covered containers are allowed in the library. This includes:

  • Coffee and other drinks in hard plastic/travel cup containers with lids
  • Bottles of water, soda, juice, etc. with screw on, non-spillable caps The following are not allowed in the library:
  • Beverages in pop top cans
  • Take-out drinks in paper or Styrofoam cups with lids

Drinks are NOT allowed near any library computers, copy machines or microfilm readers. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed under any circumstances.

All containers associated with beverages must be properly disposed of by the patron.

Patrons consuming beverages or food in the library may be financially responsible for damage resulting from spills or stains.

 

This policy has been designed to balance the needs of the library with the convenience of our patrons. We encourage library patrons to help us monitor this policy. However, if a library staff member observes abuse of this policy the offending individual will be asked to desist or leave the library.
